Alumni Award Winners

What Are They?

The Alumni Association recognizes the outstanding service and accomplishments of its members annually at the Founders Day Luncheon & Awards Ceremony held in early February. The Distinguished Alumnus/a Award, Distinguished Young Alumnus/a Award, the Samuel Orr Honorary Alumnus/a Award and the Edie Bates Alumni Volunteer Service Award are presented at that time.

Who Are They?

Our award winners are exceptional and active alumni who have been nominated by friends and classmates just like you. Is there a fellow classmate or alumnus who you know is doing worthy things in their hometown community, professional field and in service to their alma mater? We encourage you to nominate them today!

The individual award guidelines are listed below with the past recipients of each award. Look them over and think carefully about alumni you know who are doing good things where they are.

How To Nominate

To nominate a fellow alumnus/a who shows exemplary service to his/her community and to UE, print out and complete the pdf nomination form below and return it to the Office of Alumni and Parent Relations, 1800 Lincoln Avenue, Evansville, IN 47722, fax to 812 488-2560 or email to alumni@evansville.edu. Nominations are accepted year-round and the Alumni Awards committee of the Alumni Association Board of Directors makes their selection each fall.


UE Alumni Association Presents Annual Awards at Founders Day 2011

Two alumni where honored for their achievements and service to UE and two UE friends were made honorary alumni as part of UE's 158th Founders Day on Sunday, February 19, 2012. These recipients are just a few of the bright stars in the UE Community exemplifying outstanding service and accomplishment. Their passion and loyalty is recognized by both the university and the community. The University of Evansville Alumni Association would like to thank each of them for dedication and support.

Edward Coleman

Distinguished Alumnus Award

Dr. R. Edward Coleman '65, currently works as a Professor of Radiology as well as Vice-Chair Department of Radiology at Duke University Medical Center. His medical passions lie with PET imaging and its use and evaluation of patients with cancer and dementia, and he is credited as the first physician to demonstrate the potential clinical utility of PET imaging. Since graduating from UE, Dr. Coleman has remained a committed, dedicated UE alumnus. He has been an active member of the University's Alumni Association Board of Directors, serving from 1988-1994, and a President's Club member since 2009, sponsors an endowed scholarship and was the 2009 homecoming speaker. The University community is grateful for his service and commitment to both the University of Evansville and the field of medicine.

Craig Bryan

Young Alumnus Award

Since graduating from UE, Dr. Craig Bryan '01 has given his time and talent to establish programs to reduce suicidal behaviors among pre-deployment and active duty soldiers. Recently assuming the new role of associate director of the National Center for Veterans Studies, he has also worked as a consultant for the United States Air Force, Marine Corps, and Army. In addition to his demanding career and service to his local community, Dr. Bryan has volunteered at UE both as a mentor and a LEAGUE recruiter. He represents the quality education UE can provide as well as the core values and spirit of service that are products of embracing the Evansville experience.

Richard And Patrice Schroeder

Samuel Orr Honorary Alumni Award

Although they're graduates of Vanderbilt and Indiana University, Richard and Patrice Schroeder have been long-time friends of the University. Richard and Patrice are currently actively involved with the university as members of the UE Sponsor-A-Student Program and long-time members of the President's Club. Richard is a charter member of the Schroeder Family School of Business Administration Advisory Board and is currently serving as chair. The Schroeder family supports UE as if it were their own university.


Past Recipients

Distinguished Alumni Award - The Distinguished Alumni Award was established by the Alumni Association Board of Directors in 1990. This is the highest honor which the Association can bestow upon an alumnus/a. The award recognizes an individual's achievements in his/her professional field, service to his/her community and exceptional leadership and service to the University.

Distinguished Alumnus/a Award Recipients:

Distinguished Young Alumni Award - The Distinguished Young Alumni Award was established in 1997. This honor is presented to an alumnus/a under the age of 40 who has made significant strides in his/her personal and professional development and who has demonstrated service to the University and his/her community.

Young Alumnus Award Recipients:

Samuel Orr Honorary Alumni Award - This award was established in 1971 as the Honorary Alumni Award; in 1997, the award was renamed in honor of Dr. Samuel Orr. Dr. Orr served the University as a trustee for 59 years. This award recognizes a non-alumnus/a for his/her personal and professional accomplishments and service to the University. It is the highest honor the Association can bestow upon a non-alumnus.

Samuel Orr Honorary Alumnus/a Award Recipients:

Edie Bates Alumni Volunteer Service Award - The Edie Bates Alumni Volunteer Service Award was established in 1998. The award is named in honor of Edie Bates'42, a University trustee. This award was established to recognize an alumnus/a for his/her exemplary volunteer service to his/her community and the University.
