Art Student Profiles
Amanda Topper
Evansville, Indiana
Art has always been Amanda Topper's passion and preferred form of communication. "Since I am hard of hearing, art has been a way for me to express myself." Amanda chose UE for its welcoming environment. "There are resources available for my circumstances, and the art department is great. It's my second home."
In addition to her visual communication major, Amanda is earning a minor in business. "I want to be able to understand the basics of business, and I know the classes I'm taking will give me the information I need. Yet, each semester, I make certain I take a least one class that is hands-on."
Along with the time commitment for her classes, Amanda volunteers with Girls in Bloom and works for UE's Crescent Magazine. "Girls in Bloom, is a local nonprofit that highlights the importance of self-expression. Someone once encouraged me and my work with Girls in Bloom allows me to do the same for others. My work as an ad designer with Crescent Magazine has taught me about the pressure of deadlines. It is great experience as I prepare for my first internship and my career."
Courtney Hostetler
Evansville, Indiana
Courtney Hostetler wants a career in the entertainment industry. She wants to design figures and masks for movies and would like nothing better than to design creatures for science fiction or horror movies. She chose to major in art for the many options and numerous prospects to show her work. "UE is a good place to study art. Although I knew which area of art I wanted to study, if you are not certain, the ability to take painting, sculpture, jewelry-making, graphic design, and more provides ample opportunities for finalizing your decision."
Courtney is combining a Bachelor of Fine Arts in sculpture with a minor in visual communication design to gain expertise in different mediums. "With my career goals, I know I need both hands-on and computer design experience. At UE, my schedule is flexible enough to allow me to take classes in both. I've also gained additional experience by working as an illustrator for Crescent Magazine. Studying art requires a time commitment, but I enjoy it."
