Civil Engineering Student Profile

Ryan Witters

Ryan Witters
Evansville, Indiana

As an NCAA Division I cross country runner and student in one of the nation's top tier civil engineering programs, Ryan Witters has chosen a lifestyle that is very demanding. "At 6:00 in the morning, I'm up and getting my morning training, and by 8:00 a.m. I'm in class — alive and alert. I have no downtime, but it keeps me out of trouble." Ryan is doing better than staying out of trouble, as a junior, he is getting his best college grades and is Evansville's number one runner.

Civil engineering students at UE learn by doing and like many of his peers, Ryan is a member of the University of Evansville's concrete canoe team. "I was a member of last year's national finalist team. I'm excited to be a part of this year's core leadership. I know what our goals are and what it takes to get back to the finals." Providing leadership is nothing new for Ryan and it has been a role that he has assumed naturally.

Being at the University of Evansville has helped Ryan further develop many of his skills like leadership. "Professors at UE point out your strengths. They help you build on those abilities. I now know I can step into projects and make sure we are on track. Coach has been encouraging by telling me to keep working through busy times. UE students are very bright and have great work ethics. Since being at UE and around supportive people, I've learned to be successful — I've learned to remain focused."
