Classical Studies Alumni Profiles
Debra Trusty
Class of 2005
Debra Trusty, a doctoral student in classical archaeology at Florida State University, is confident that her University of Evansville education placed her a step ahead of colleagues. She understands the value of the one-on-one interaction with the faculty she received at UE. The environment was comfortable for her with space to grow intellectually. She also realizes that the faculty held her accountable for her own learning.
"I received a great education at UE. I studied Greek for four years with Dr. Ware and remember him dressing as Socrates when we studied his trial. Professor Waremade the challenge of learning Greek fun and stimulating. He set up independent study courses for me to pursue my Greek education. Dr. Ware let me tutor other UE students in Greek and showed me how to use different instructional styles to help struggling students achieve. There is no doubt that my professors at UE prepared me for the rigor of the exams in my master's and PhD programs."
As part of her doctoral studies at Florida State, Debra teaches mythology to approximately 50 students. "Teaching this class has allowed me to draw inspiration from and employ teaching methods I learned at UE. I truly appreciate what a great education I received at the University of Evansville."
