School of Education Faculty Profile
Sharon Gieselmann, PhD
Associate Professor of Education
As a former elementary school teacher and principal, Sharon Gieselmann uses her firsthand teaching experience to prepare University of Evansville students for successful teaching careers. "I can share personal experience about educational environments. I hope that by sharing these events and their successful outcomes my students are better prepared for situations that might arise."
At the University of Evansville, education students learn in small personal settings and gain valuable classroom experience beginning in their freshman year. According to Gieselmann, "Being in the schools early provides confirmation to my students that they have chosen the right major." UE education majors also work with a variety of schools and students during their four years. Gieselmann feels that the diversity is essential to their success as teachers. "Our field experiences are quite impressive and help students understand that teaching requires a great deal of commitment."
In addition to teaching education courses, Gieselmann supervises student teachers and interns, serves as chair of the Outstanding Educator Awards Committee, and works with the ISEA's Outreach to Teach program. She has received many awards throughout her career, most recently the Leadership Evansville Award in Education.
