The University of Evansville offers licensure in two programs in the field of special education - mild intervention and intense intervention. Within a four-year period, students are able to major in special education for both mild and intense intervention or minor in mild intervention with an additional 14 hours for a major. In addition to teaching positions, graduates find employment in clinics, agencies, and centers devoted to the care and education of special needs persons.

"UE provided more practical experience in my first two years here than I ever expected. I have gained a great deal of knowledge from going into the local classrooms and experiencing first-hand what teaching is really like. The education professors are always there and willing to answer my questions."
- Ella Weihe, Coralville, Iowa - Special Education Major

The University of Evansville is one of the few universities in the state of Indiana that still offers a special education degree that allows the graduate to teach K-12 in all areas of disabilities. Students are placed in as many as four internships prior to student teaching. This enhances the teacher-in-training experience. In today's population, there is a growing need for all teachers, especially in the area of special education. At the University of Evansville, graduates of this program have a 100 percent job placement rate.
