Abbey Boehm

Abbey Boehm
Jasper, Indiana

When she came to visit the University of Evansville campus, Abbey Boehm immediately felt at home. "UE just seemed to fit. Everyone on campus made me feel so welcome and that has continued through the years." Abbey chose to study elementary education since she has always wanted to work with kids. She chose the University of Evansville for its reputation. "UE has an outstanding reputation for producing excellent teachers, and it is clear why. We receive so many hands-on experiences."

Abbey is thankful that she was in an actual classroom starting the first semester of her freshman year. "Instead of reading text books all day, we learn by being in the classroom and interacting with students. Through my placements, I have gained so many ideas of strategies and techniques to try. We also learn from others' mistakes. With so much time in the schools, we are able to learn things while we still have professors and cooperating teachers to help if needed."

Getting to know her professors and being involved on campus has helped Abbey transition to college life and break out of her shell. "I used to be extremely shy and quiet, but now, I really feel a part of the University. I have met so many people through my involvement in campus activities. I've also gotten to know my professors and feel comfortable talking to them about anything. They have provided excellent advice about issues in my internships as well as non-education related items. They are always there to talk to."
