Where Do Our Graduates Go?

Upon graduation from Evansville, our students have gone on to study literature, creative writing, film, law, library science and even medicine at some of the best graduate schools in the country: Boston University Theological Seminary, Emerson College, Harvard University, Indiana University, New York University, Purdue University, University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, University of California at Irvine, University of Houston, University of Iowa, University of Mississippi, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, University of Notre Dame, and University of St. Andrews (Scotland).

Our alumni are editors, teachers, professors, ministers, attorneys, librarians, and writers; they hold positions in marketing, advertising, commerce, education, public relations, and management of various kinds. They quickly find that their critical thinking and effective writing skills — honed through the study of literature, writing, and editing — help them achieve success in whatever careers they choose to pursue.

Creative Writing Major — Bachelor of Fine Arts, Bachelor of Arts

The University of Evansville's creative writing program has an outstanding national reputation. In addition to a Bachelor of Arts in creative writing, Evansville is one of the few schools in the country to offer a Bachelor of Fine Arts in this area of study. Those who major in creative writing have a variety of writing courses to choose from — poetry, fiction, drama, screenwriting, essay, and creative nonfiction — in addition to a minimum of four literature courses. We also offer copy editing, a survey of the English language, internships, writing workshops, and independent studies for advanced work.

Literature Major — Bachelor of Arts

The literature major is designed for students who want a solid liberal arts background in literature or for those who are headed toward graduate school. Our major requires courses in British and American literature as well as two elective courses in literature. Our curriculum includes those writers and works that are most frequently covered in the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) and the Major Field Achievement Test (MFAT). Students may also choose from several world literature courses.

English Education Major — Bachelor of Science

Students opting for English education degrees also have departmental requirements in literature, writing, and language study, in addition to courses required by the School of Education. Our goal is to provide students with the content knowledge they will most likely need for teaching high school or middle school English. In the past decade, all of our English education students who have sought teaching jobs upon graduation have found employment.
