Health Services Student Profiles
Matthew Netherton
Wichita, Kansas
Matt Netherton declared a major in health services administration because both of his parents work in the medical field. Originally, he was interested in the clinical side of health care but found his interests lie in the administrative aspects. "Health services administration perfectly combines business and health care and provides me with a solid background in each."
Matt chose the University of Evansville because of the many opportunities offered. "Not only did UE athletics coaches express an interest in me, but the professors and admission staff also made it clear that both the coaches and the faculty would be flexible and work with me regardless of my major. That really impressed me."
While at UE, Matt still has some goals to achieve. "I would like to help the baseball team win as many games as possible, maintain my GPA, and graduate with a bachelor's degree in management and a master's degree in health services administration."
Hailey Pickerel
Brentwood, Tennessee
Hailey Pickerel wants to make a difference. She wants a career that challenges her and provides opportunities for growth. "Health services administration allows me to be involved in something that is a crucial part of society. We can no longer ignore the changes and challenges within health care. I want to be a part of these changes and feel I am making a difference in an area that impacts everyone."
Students are encouraged to participate in many aspects of campus life at the University of Evansville, and Hailey has taken full advantage of the opportunities by studying abroad at Harlaxton College, shadowing hospital administrators at St. Thomas and Baptist Hospitals in Nashville, Tennessee, and participating in a variety of campus organizations including a sorority, College Mentors for Kids, and UE Leadership Academy. "Through all my activities and leadership roles at UE, I have learned much about myself and developed my skills in working with others. My entire UE experience has shaped who I am today."
