History Degree Programs
Our program is built around an interconnected four-stage development process:
- As a freshman you develop your enthusiasm
- As a sophomore you develop your competence
- As a junior you develop your confidence
- As a senior you develop your expertise
As a freshman you will take 100 and 200-level classes that ask you to examine various approaches to history. Over the next three years you will take 300-level courses that explore particular themes, regions, and time periods. We are especially proud of the seminar courses that have been developed with juniors and seniors in mind. These are 400-level courses with small enrollments that focus on the following specialized topics:
- War, Death, and Religion in World War I
- The Mexican Revolution
- Medieval Warfare
- Decolonization in Africa
- Nationalism in Ireland
Other upper-level courses that are especially popular include:
- The First World War
- Europe in the Age of Revolution
- America in the 1960s
- The West and the Islamic World in the Middle Ages
- The U.S. and the Middle East
