History Majors & Minors
Today, more than ever, it is important that you have a clear understanding of our world. The study of history provides you with the tools to make sense of the various forces that are shaping our lives on a daily basis.

A history degree from Evansville provides the skills for an array of exciting careers or the preparation to gain admission to the nation's top graduate schools and law schools.
Our program is built around an interconnected four-stage development process:
- As a freshman you develop your enthusiasm
- As a sophomore you develop your competence
- As a junior you develop your confidence
- As a senior you develop your expertise
As a freshman you will take 100 and 200-level classes that ask you to examine various approaches to history. Over the next three years you will take 300-level courses that explore particular themes, regions, and time periods. We are especially proud of the seminar courses that have been developed with juniors and seniors in mind. These are 400-level courses with small enrollments that focus on:
- War, Death, and Memory
- The Mexican Revolution, 1911-1917
- War, Politics, and Gender, 1050-1330
- Decolonization in Africa, 1919-Present
- Social Change and Political Conflict in Ireland, 1700-1925
Other upper-level courses that are especially popular include:
- The Emergence of Modern China and Japan since 1600
- The Second World War
- America in the 1960s
- The West and the Islamic World in the Middle Ages
- The Civil War and Reconstruction
