Mathematics Student Profile

Jacqueline Rice

Jacqueline Rice
Portage, Indiana

When choosing a college, Jacqueline Rice knew she wanted a small school that offered actuarial science. As one of only 70 schools in the country with this program, the University of Evansville was a perfect fit for Jacqueline. "After meeting with professors and touring campus, Evansville just felt right, it felt like a college."

Jacqueline has always enjoyed mathematics and believes that a math degree is versatile and can be applied to many fields. "When I came to UE, I didn't realize all the possibilities math provides. I knew that I liked math and was interested in attempting to quantify something unpredictable like risk, which is why my concentration is actuarial science. I have also found that I have many academic interests. UE faculty members have encouraged me to explore these interests by offering specialized independent study courses."

For the next year, Jacqueline will further develop her skills by interning at American General Finance. "I'm working in credit risk modeling where we build, implement, and validate the models that determine whether to approve or decline loan applications. It's a great way for me to gain experience in the field as my future plans are to work with financial modeling and analysis or risk management."
