Nursing Student Profiles
Dwight Brown - Perry County, Indiana
Ethan Merkel - Dubois, Indiana
Aaron Stoll - Washington, Indiana
Phil Winternheimer - Indianapolis, Indiana
There are many reasons to major in nursing at the University of Evansville. Dwight Brown, Ethan Merkel, Aaron Stoll, and Phil Winternheimer are just some of our students who demonstrate leadership skills needed by nurses today and in the future. Aaron wants to "help people and make a difference in their lives." Phil wanted "courses that are challenging and relevant" and that provide "hands-on experience." Ethan enjoys the flexibility offered by the field, and for Dwight, nursing is the right choice because of the many career options and the "demand for caring and competent nurses is high."
The one-on-one interaction with professors is a great asset to the program. "UE's program is very personal. The professors know you by name and challenge you to do your best," stated Dwight. "They are willing to meet with students individually and assist when needed."
One of Aaron's more memorable experiences occurred during his obstetric clinical rotation. "I was able to observe a cesarean birth and then take care of the mother and baby. It was a great experience."
Being able to closely interact with patients is a highlight for Ethan. "I have always been interested in the health field. I am fascinated with human physiology and how individuals are affected by outside influences."
For those interested in the University of Evansville and nursing, Phil had the following comment, "UE has a great nursing program and a great reputation for an excellent education. It is a campus that allows you to get involved in both academics and campus life. The size lets you get to know your professors and make the learning experience more interesting and worthwhile."
