Home Schooled Student Admission Guidelines

The University of Evansville welcomes home schooled students who are sufficiently prepared to be successful at UE. At the earliest, students may apply for admission after completing a body of course work that is approximately equivalent to six semesters of high school preparatory material. At the latest, students should apply for admission by February 1 of the year that is equivalent to the senior year of high school. In addition to presenting a complete Application for Admission, home schooled candidates should submit the following to be considered for admission to the University of Evansville:

Transcript

A home-prepared transcript is acceptable. Students are expected to have studied a rigorous college preparatory curriculum, which includes these areas:

• English, Literature, and composition - four years
• Algebra - two years
• Geometry - one year
• Laboratory Sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Physics) - two years
• Social Sciences (History, Psychology, Sociology) - two years

These courses are recommended, but not required for admission consideration:

• Foreign Language - two years
• Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, or Calculus
• Physics

SAT I/ACT

We require applicants to present either of these standardized tests.

Letter of Recommendation

In lieu of a guidance counselor evaluation form, we ask for a letter of recommendation from a non-family member. Suggested authors for such a letter include pastors, employers, coaches, music teachers, scout leaders, club sponsors, etc.

Application Essay Policy

All applicants are required to submit an essay of 250-500 words. Review the application essay requirements and essay topics.

GED

We do not require a GED if all the above criteria are satisfactory.

Although it is not required, it is helpful for the home schooled student to have taken one or more college courses prior to enrolling full time at UE. The University of Evansville welcomes home schooled students in certain UE classes.

Application Deadlines

The University of Evansville has two application deadlines. The early action deadline is December 1. If you apply on or before December 1, your admission and scholarship decision will be mailed no later than December 15.

The regular notification deadline is February 1, and decisions on admission and scholarship will be mailed no later than February 15. Once you have been admitted, you must reserve your space in the freshman class by submitting a $300 nonrefundable admission deposit by May 1.

Applying for Admission

1. Instructions for completing the online Application for Admission and Scholarships:

   1. Complete the online application.
   2. When your electronic application is received, we send you a confirmation e-mail.
   3. Submit SAT or ACT scores, an official high school transcript, an essay, and a high school counselor evaluation form.

2. Instructions for completing the paper application:

   1. Call the Office of Admission toll free at 800-423-8633 or 812-488-2468 if you need a hard copy of the application.
   2. Complete all parts of the application (excluding "High School Counselor Recommendation & Evaluation Form").
   3. Submit a letter of recommendation, SAT or ACT scores, an essay, transcript, and your application fee to the University of Evansville.
