"Come Home to Harlaxton"
This message is a simple invitation: "Come Home to Harlaxton." We are now able to host you in a manner, and manor, which you deserve—or would like to deserve. But whether deserving it or faking it, c'mon, c'mon. We want to welcome you.
Here's the deal. We have just completed a magnificent renovation of the historic 1835 Anthony Salvin Gatehouse, with significant financial support from Sharon and Burkley McCarthy and English Heritage. This "miniature castle," just down the lane from Harlaxton Manor, has not only been preserved; it has also been renewed into an all-the-conveniences, designer-quality apartment that is waiting just for you.
It will, longer term, be rented semester by semester and in the summers by UE and Partner College academics on sabbatical leave. But for a limited time, we can make it available for rentals of as few as three days or as much as four months. The cost is comparable to that of a decent hotel room in a decent British hotel—except that you have a whole apartment in a beautiful historic property, with the resources of Harlaxton College and Harlaxton Manor just outside your door. The apartment will accommodate a single person or a couple.
An elegant bedroom has interesting spaces to work or relax, with a large bathroom attached. The top-floor living room features a breathtaking view of Harlaxton Manor itself. A full kitchen is completely equipped and has both a dining area and unique desk space. A walled patio area gives outdoor pleasure with privacy.
In a special way, while in the Harlaxton Gatehouse you are at one with the English fields and woodlandss surrounding you, with the rich history of Britain at your doorstep, and with the vitality of Harlaxton College down the lane. The College library is yours to use, as is the Sports Hall and fitness center. You are welcome to College events and lectures. And, though the Gatehouse kitchen has everything you need, meals are also available in the College Refectory and at The Gregory, a fine pub and restaurant at the top of the lane.
So, c'mon, c'mon. Treat yourself to your own little castle, in a classic English village, an hour by train from London but with "real England" at your doorstep. Sound interesting? You deserve it. Contact the Principal, Dr. Gordon Kingsley, at Harlaxton College, Grantham, Lincs. NG32 1AG, UK, jgkingsley@harlaxton.ac.uk, telephone 011-44-1476-403000.
We'll leave the light on for you.
