Things you did while attending UE?
While attending UE, I attended guest lectures, hung out with friends outside of Ridge during beautiful sunny days, went to UE volleyball games and attended the amazing UE Theater productions.
Most impressionable experience at UE?
I would have to say my most impressionable experience at UE was my overall experience at UE. The classes, the professors, the living quarters, the campus, it has everything you could ask for from a small school! I love it so much I keep trying to get my younger brother to apply!
Favorite professor and why?
If I had to pick one, and believe me I had to sit and think for a while, it would have to be Dr. Alan Kaiser in the Archaeology department. He was always enthusiastic in class and outside of class he was always willing to explain assignments if you were struggling or work with you if Latin just wasn’t quite coming. If you do take a class with Dr. Kaiser just be aware that he never calls anyone by their first name, EVER. It’s always Miss so-and-so or Mr. so-and-so.
Favorite class and why?
Oh these questions are so difficult! If I have to pick one class it would probably be Medieval Europe which I took with Dr. Parks. This class was very small and was run in a seminar style. I loved the seminar style and all the reading we did during the class.
Clubs and organizations in which you were active and which one meant the most to you and why?
I was part of InterVarsity Christian Fellowship and SAHA or Society of Art History and Archaeology. I loved InterVarsity because it was a great way to take a break from studying and I loved all the friends I made there.
What did you like best about the Honors Program?
I loved the guest lecturers that were brought in but most of all I loved the research opportunities I was given!
What have you been doing since graduation?
I have been working at Bradbury’s Waterin’ Hole, a pool and spa store, not a bar, in my hometown. I’m going to be starting a GIS certificate program from Penn State in October 2012.
What are your goals (career, education, life, etc…)?
My education goals are to get both my Masters and my PhD. Once that’s done I would love to work for an archaeological trust in a city or possibly teach at a university.
Do you think your Honors Program experiences have helped/will help you reach your goals?
I think my Honors Program experiences opened avenues of employment up to me that I never would have even thought of before they were suggested. Because of my Honors Project I am considering looking into archival work or military history.
