After Graduation

UE political science students gain a wealth of knowledge about domestic and international politics, while at the same time developing a wide array of skills that are desirable to employers in today's economy. These skills include critical thinking, written communication, public speaking, research design, and statistics. This background has empowered UE graduates to excel in careers such as:

  • National, state, or local government service
  • Law
  • Business
  • Public policy
  • Non-governmental organizations
  • Private interest groups and associations
  • Campaign management and polling
  • Journalism
  • Teaching
  • Research

UE graduates have translated their interest in politics into productive and successful careers in government agencies like the Department of Homeland Security, on Capitol Hill, at a variety of nongovernmental organizations, and on political campaigns at the state and federal level. Recent UE alumni have earned master's degrees in fields such as public administration, international affairs, or political management.

In addition, our political science graduates have pursued law degrees at an impressive array of law schools, including:

  • Harvard University
  • Indiana University
  • University of Notre Dame
  • Vanderbilt University
  • University of Virginia
  • University of Michigan
  • University of Dayton
  • Washington and Lee University

Students with an interest in law school are encouraged to pursue a minor in legal studies in conjunction with their political science major. To help pre-law students prepare themselves for law school, students can be assigned a pre-law advisor in addition to their academic advisor.
