UE Senior William McClure to be Keynote Speaker at UE Commencement

Posted: Tuesday, May 6, 2014

University of Evansville senior William McClure will deliver the senior keynote address at UE’s 156th annual Commencement Exercises, May 10, at 1:30 p.m. at the Ford Center in Evansville, Indiana. Approximately 583 degrees will be bestowed upon 568 UE students during the ceremony. McClure will receive a Bachelor of Arts degree with a history major and legal studies minor.

In 2012, the University established a new tradition of selecting a senior to deliver the keynote address at spring commencement, instead of a speaker from outside campus. The process of selecting the student speaker is competitive. All graduating seniors in good standing at UE are eligible to be considered. This year McClure was selected for the honor.

McClure, currently a Bloomington, Illinois, resident, is originally from Bourbonnais, Illinois. He is a graduate of Bradley-Bourbonnais Community High School and is an Eagle Scout.

While at UE, McClure was a member of the History Honor Society (Phi Alpha Theta) and the Social Sciences Honor Society (Pi Gamma Mu).  He received the Edward N. Tihen Research Grant from the Kansas Historical Foundation and was a panelist at the Phi Alpha Theta Biennial National Conference and the National Conference for Undergraduate Research.  McClure has presented historical research at multiple national conferences. In addition, he is a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars and the National Society of Leadership Success (Sigma Alpha Pi).  McClure has held a number of leadership roles in his fraternity, Lambda Chi Alpha, and has volunteered for College Mentors for Kids.

McClure will be volunteering with AmeriCorps after graduation with plans of attending law school following his term of service.

For those who cannot attend Commencement in person, a video of the ceremony will stream live online at www.evansville.edu/commencement/live.cfm. The recorded video will be posted on this page the week after Commencement.
