New University Center

University of Evansville announces new University Center

The heart of UE's campus will soon be getting a new look. Thanks to a generous donation from Dr. William L. Ridgway, work will begin June 1 on the University Center. Once completed, students will enjoy a center that brings all student services together in one place, with the extra amenities that will make it feel like home.

This $23.6 million building will "serve as the campus living room," said Dana Clayton, dean of students. This 90,000 square foot building will be located in the center of campus and will be the largest building.

On the lower level, Ridgway University Center will have an information area, cafe dining facilities, Aces Place - a convenience type store, ATM machines, the University Bookstore, the Underground lounge and recreational area, and Jazzman's coffeebar and cafe. The upper level will house offices for student organizations and the Student Life area, two casual lounges and one study lounge, the Office of Student Publications (for the student newspaper and yearbook), studios and offices for WUEV, the campus radio station, and Eykamp Hall, a 500-seat auditorium.

Cheer and Dance Team Tryouts April 13-14

Interested in cheering or dancing for the Purple Aces? Tryouts for the all-female and co-ed cheer teams as well as the dance team will be held April 13-14 in Carson Center at the University of Evansville.

The University's cheer team performs at all men's and women's Division I home basketball games, travels to a select number of away games, and attends the MVC conference tournaments and pre-/post-season tournaments. In addition, the team participates in a variety of spirit activities, including pep rallies, other campus sporting events, and local public appearances.

Tryout information as well as required elements are available online. Students unable to attend may submit a videotaped tryout. For more information, contact Emily Dunbar-Daughtery, cheer team advisor, at ed491@evansville.edu or Sarah Lamar, dance team advisor, at sl53@evansville.edu.
