New Venture Creation Competition to be held April 20

Twelve student teams from universities across the country will compete for cash prizes in the second annual Evansville New Venture Creation Competition at the University of Evansville this Friday, April 20.

The competition, sponsored by the University of Evansville Schroeder Family School of Business Administration, promotes students' entrepreneurial spirit. Finalists were chosen by a panel of evaluators based on the strength of the team's business plan.

"This is a great opportunity for undergraduate students to learn what it is like to see if their ideas have what it takes to succeed in the entrepreneurial marketplace in front of a panel of veteran investors," said Pete Sherman, assistant professor of management at UE and professor of the Fundamentals of Entrepreneurship courses at UE.

The winning team will have an opportunity to present its ideas to the Midwest Venture Club of Evansville and the Small Business Development Center. The top three finalists will receive prize money to fund their business idea (first place: $10,000, second place: $5,000, third place: $2,500).

The Freshman Edge

The Freshman Edge is a unique 10-day program designed for incoming freshmen. The Edge is a residential program, which gives students a chance to experience residence hall life and make some friends along the way.  Enrollment for the program is almost full, but some spots are still available.

You will meet many UE faculty members and community leaders in Evansville. Students will study The American Corporation (3.0 hr. course) and will thus fulfill their "American Traditions" requirement for General Education. Managerial tours will be included of local businesses. This program allows students to ask questions, seek answers, make connections, and explore the campus before the fall semester begins.

Fun Events: The Rosen Birthday BBQ, Putt-Putt Challenge, Volleyball, Pizza Trips, and much more.  To register or learn more, visit: Freshman Edge

SAB Sunset Concert and Bike Race this weekend

UE students are gearing up for the annual Sunset Concert and Bike Race weekend, which kicks off tonight. Past acts have included Better than Ezra, Sugarcult, and Uncle Kracker. Games, inflatables, carnival games, and much more will be at the concert.

The 44th annual Bike Race, the final event of Greek Week, is Saturday, April 21. Teams of four males and four females will compete for the title. The male race consists of 172 laps of 39 miles, while the females will ride for 110 laps or 25 miles. Many of the teams have been training since early January.
