They placed third in both the men's and women's slalom and endurance events, third in the men's sprint team, and third in their design report. The team also placed third overall. The steel bridge team fabricated a 20-foot long steel bridge weighing 378 pounds. The team ranked fourth in the time of construction category and eighth in the overall competition. Three of the concrete canoe team members entered the concrete Frisbee contest and won third place for distance thrown and durability. Their two-pound Frisbee was thrown three times for distances over 60 feet. Read the full story here. UE Professor Receives Guggenheim Award
Baer was one of 189 chosen for this fellowship from a group of almost 2,800 applicants. Past recipients have included Ansel Adams, W.H. Auden, Henry Kissinger, Eudora Welty, and scores of Nobel, Pulitzer, and other prize winners. Communication students revive memorial fund University of Evansville communication students have joined together in a service learning project and revived a memorial fund which provides support for the Youth Service Bureau's Afternoons ROCK program, a substance abuse prevention program targeting 10- to 14-year-olds. The students have created a campaign to increase awareness of the fund and the importance of substance abuse prevention. In addition to donating $700 to the fund, students did everything from designing the logo to creating public service announcements. Neil Hytowitz, who's from Atlanta, said the class felt they were doing something good for the community. "There are a few from Evansville and then there are some that are from across the nation. We've all come together and we can help make this city and community that we've grown to love over our last four years into a better place." |
