Matt Meier
Great Falls, Montana
It was during his junior year of high school that Matt Meier joined his love of the theatre with his love for posters. "I asked my director if I could design the poster for our school's production of A Chorus Line. Although I didn't have any prior experience, the poster was a success, and I've been designing ever since."
Being able to stay involved with the theatre department has provided Matt with creative outlets outside the classroom. "Since my freshman year at UE, I've helped by painting sets, building costumes, and I've even been cast as an actor in student-directed scenes." Matt also feels that studying abroad is an experience he will never forget. "I studied in Dublin, Ireland, and fell in love with Europe. I traveled almost every weekend, and was inspired at the museums I visited. As an artist, it was incredible to travel to London, Paris, and Rome and stand in front of amazing works of art."
Although Matt says it sounds cliché, he believes that UE students receive individual attention. "Visual communication is such a booming industry that students can get lost amidst the thousands of new graduates entering the workforce. In the UE art department, you not only learn the skills needed to succeed, but you also learn how to stand out from everyone else."
Emily Lauver
South Bend, Indiana
Emily Lauver has always been an artist, but during an internship she explored the depths of how art assists those in need. "I had an internship at Hospice Bereavement Center with an art counselor. This experience taught me the value of the grief cycle and how it applies to many facets of life. It encouraged me to recognize the journey of the human spirit through art."
Emily enjoys the city of Evansville's art community and meeting artists that come to UE's campus. "Evansville is blessed with a rich art community which has allowed me to meet fascinating individuals who pursue art as their lifestyle. I also admire UE's art department for bringing artists to campus and informing students of new events and commission opportunities."
The pre-art therapy program at UE is a perfect fit for Emily. "Art moves me, and I want to share it with the world. I've learned how to achieve this desire through my classes. I'm glad I chose to attend UE. Even if I were an undeclared major, it would fit me like a puzzle piece."
