Scott Fites
Plainfield, Indiana
Since taking advanced placement biology in high school, Scott Fites has known that biology is what he wanted to be involved with for the rest of his life. "Biology has only become more interesting to me since I've started studying it."
Scott has been involved while at the University of Evansville. "I've benefited greatly from my undergraduate research, I studied abroad in South America and in England at Harlaxton College, and I have thoroughly enjoyed Greek life." Scott's undergraduate research opened his mind to applied biology and to learning what it means to be a scientist. "My research group sequenced the 15000 base mitochondrial genome of Unionicola foili and used molecular evidence to find a new species of Unionicola water mites."
Scott believes there are many opportunities for students pursuing degrees in biology. "Biology is a field of great diversity and much growth. There are so many different things for a person who studies biology to do. Biology deals with everything in life from the food we eat to the core of our identity. People who study biology are students of life."
