Linguapalooza is a day-long event during which local high school students interact in the foreign language of their choice with UE language students, language assistants, and professors in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.
Foreign language clubs complement classroom activities while providing students with leadership experience. Typical activities include viewing films and videos, having parties and contests, and inviting guest speakers and performers to campus.
The International Students Club, founded in 1965, has both international and American student members. Its two major events, the International Bazaar and the International Banquet and Variety Show, are Evansville traditions.
Phi Sigma Iota, the international foreign language honorary society, welcomes foreign language students of high academic standing. Membership in Phi Sigma Iota (over 60,000 students in the United States and abroad) is the highest academic honor one can obtain in the field of foreign languages. An initiation ceremony is held every year and the honor society hosts a holiday celebration in December.
International House is a weekly cultural program open to all American and international students interested in learning about the diverse cultures represented on campus. Activities include culture nights, group outings, dances, and panel discussions. Meeting people through these programs provides not only insight into other cultures, but also lifelong friendships which span the globe. A cultural resource room, complete with satellite television, books, games, and foreign language resources, is available in Moore Residence Hall for students.
International Education Week, a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education, promotes international education and offers activities that prepare citizens for a global environment. It was celebrated for the first time in 2000 and today is celebrated in over 100 countries. UE recognizes International Education Week with a week-long, campus-wide schedule of activities designed to celebrate the strength of UE's international programs and to promote their continued growth.
Babel, an online journal, showcases the work of students in the UE Department of Foreign Languages.
The Global Living and Learning Community at UE is a floor of Moore Residence Hall dedicated to cultural discovery and language interaction. The floor houses international and U.S. students, providing them the chance to gain knowledge of each other's backgrounds.
Hispanic Heritage Festival is a celebration of artistic, cultural, academic, and folkloric activities celebrating theHispanic and Latino communities.
