Philosophy Student Profile
Jesse Miller

Jesse Miller
Lapel, Indiana

Diversity and balance are the keys to Jesse Miller's experience at the University of Evansville. Although he came to UE undecided in his major area of study, he knew he wanted a subject that would teach him something about himself and the world around him. "I'm majoring in philosophy and economics since both allow me to expand and intensify my studies."

Jesse stays active on campus by participating as an orientation leader and being involved in a fraternity, Philosophy Club, Economics Club, and intramurals. "I find that if I stay active and do things that I really like, I'm more motivated in my academic work." In the spring of 2008, Jesse was able to meet one of his goals by studying abroad at Harlaxton College, UE's campus in Grantham, England. "Studying at Harlaxton is rewarding and life changing. Every weekend I traveled and visited the homes of some of the greatest minds in history. I can definitely say that [as a result] I am able to better understand the intricate facets of my life."

UE is the perfect size for Jesse as he is able to form relationships with students and faculty as well as take intensive, discussion-oriented seminar classes as a sophomore. "I stayed in Evansville last summer to complete an internship, and, while I was here, I contacted one of my philosophy professors. We went to lunch and talked about music, movies, and life. He even helped me successfully apply for the Honors Program." Jesse's future plans include law school and maybe a career in law enforcement, but he's not worried. "I love where I am at and know I'll be well-prepared for whatever career I choose."
