Physics Student Profile

Mallory WalkerMallory Walker
Edwards County, Illinois

When speaking with Mallory Walker, a physics and mathematics double major at UE, the first thing you notice is her confidence. "I've had a lot of opportunities to develop confidence in both myself and my abilities. The classes here are challenging, but the faculty members want everyone to succeed, and they help you to stretch yourself to understand the concepts."

Mallory's experience at UE has also helped her clarify her long-term goals. "I want to be a physics professor. I have been a tutor since my freshman year and a lab assistant since my sophomore year. I enjoy seeing the look that a person gets when they understand something they didn't before."

"Physics is so interesting. I want to go to class to see what new things I am going to learn. The physics department at UE is a close-knit community. We all spend a lot of time together, and the professors are always willing to help in any way, including writing numerous recommendation letters. I feel privileged that my professors have encouraged me to meet my goals, which include summer research projects and graduate school. With their support and the education I've received, I'm confident that I'll be able to face any challenge that comes my way."
