Brian Connell
Columbus, Indiana
Growing up, Brian Connell spent many hours with his family discussing current events and watching network news. At the time, he didn't realize the news would shape his educational goals. Then came the 2000 presidential election and September 11, 2001. "At that point, I realized that politics shape the smallest details of our everyday lives." His long standing interest in politics led him to a major in political science at the University of Evansville. He also chose minors in international studies and history to better understand the impact of political decisions on societies at different points in time.
Brian has enjoyed the one-on-one relationships with his professors. "My professors have given me priceless advice throughout my undergraduate career. They have guided me through registration, internships, research topics and graduate school choices."
Brian's political science experiences are not limited to the classroom. He was president of Amnesty International for two years as well as an active member of College Democrats. His hands-on work also took him to Washington, D.C., where he interned with the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee. Brian also interned for a U.S. congressional campaign, which he plans to join after graduation. He has a specific long-term plan in mind. "In the future, I want to be a legislative advisor to a representative or senator. I want to shape policy at the federal level."
