Pat Wempe, PT, SCS, CSCS
Class of 1988
Pat Wempe has a multifaceted view of the University of Evansville’s Department of Physical Therapy. As a graduate of the department, a previous instructor in the program, and a business owner seeking talented new professionals, Wempe has had exposure to all aspects of Evansville’s program.
When Wempe was a senior in high school, he wasn’t certain what career path he wanted to explore. “I knew I wanted to study either medicine or physical therapy, so I wanted a school that had strong programs for both options.” Wempe was also a talented baseball player searching for a competitive NCAA Division I college. A native of Evansville, Indiana, he realized Evansville filled all his requirements.
After completing his degree, Wempe remained in the Evansville area, focusing his professional skills in orthopedics. He also began conveying his clinical experiences to Evansville undergraduates, teaching as an adjunct professor and providing supplemental lectures on special topics. “Early in my career, I realized that giving back to the University was as important as giving quality care to my patients. I really enjoy being able to interact with the students who one day will be my colleagues.”
Now an owner of ProRehab, a local outpatient physical and occupational therapy facility, Wempe continues to realize the connections and knowledge an Evansville education provided to him – and to the students who finish the program each year. “As an employer, I look to hire new therapists who are hard working and have good communication skills. I know Evansville students have completed a challenging, liberal arts-based education that makes them well-rounded, well-prepared employees.”
