Justin Fuhrmann
Class of 2002
As a doctoral student in New Testament studies at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Deerfield, Illinois, Justin Fuhrmann continues to discover the impact of his University of Evansville education. “Attending Evansville is one of the best decisions I ever made. The biblical studies program is very strong, and the professors are incredible. They really teach you to think for yourself.” Indeed, Fuhrmann credits the inspiration of his professors for many of the choices he has made regarding his education. As a freshman at Evansville, he entered the University as an archaeology major. “I intended to simply minor in biblical studies, but within the first few weeks of class with Dr. Ware I decided to bump it up to a major. He was such a great teacher that I really was inspired. It was Dr. Ware who encouraged me to apply to the master's program at Candler School of Theology at Emory University.”
Fuhrmann also recognizes the caliber of Evansville courses. “The strongest part of Evansville’s program in biblical studies is its unique emphasis on languages, especially Greek. Having now taken Greek courses at the master’s level, I realize that my courses at Evansville taught me not only how to translate but also how to make theological arguments from the language.”
However, it was not the academic program alone that made the University of Evansville a great experience for Fuhrmann. He was actively involved in religious organizations on campus, which he credits with “providing the necessary balance to my academic study of the Bible.”
