Student Profile

Susanna PowersSusanna Powers
Clarksville, Tennessee

When I was looking at colleges, I wanted to find a school that would both challenge me in my beliefs and keep me grounded in my faith. The religion majors ultimately sealed my decision to come to the University of Evansville. As a high school senior, I didn’t know what I wanted to do as a profession. I only knew that I had a passion for Christ. While sitting in on a religion class as a prospective student at Evansville, I realized that I wanted to be a part of this department. I learned more in those fifty minutes than I had in all my years in church! That is when I knew this was something I wanted to study more.

This department has taken my passion and turned it into something practical for the future. I came to college not knowing what I wanted to do as a career, but because of my professors’ guidance and the classes themselves, I realize that I have a strong desire to work in areas of social justice. After graduation, I plan to work at a homeless shelter for a few years and then pursue overseas mission work.

Whether you are pursuing full-time ministry, simply want to delve deeper into your faith, or seek to study other religious beliefs, this major is for you. You will learn so much, will strengthen your faith as you go along, and, of course, will have supportive and caring faculty to help you through the process.
