The awards listed below are for traditional, undergraduate, full-time freshmen. Your Application for Admission serves as the application for all UE merit scholarships; however, candidates for athletics and performing arts must also contact the appropriate department. These awards, assuming satisfactory Grade Point Averages and continued residency on campus (when required), are good for eight semesters (12-14 semesters for DPT students).
The following twelve scholarships cannot be combined. Even though you may qualify for more than one, you will be awarded only the one of highest value. Additional need-based assistance may be added to your merit-based award. Unless you live at home with parents, merit awards will be reduced in subsequent years if you move off campus.
The following scholarships are available for first-time students entering UE in the fall of 2008.
Trustee Scholarship
- For students who rank number one in their senior class. Awards range from one-half to full tuition.
- Indiana residents must file the FAFSA by March 1, 2008.
- Tuition-specific Indiana grants will be coordinated with UE funds.
- All Trustee Scholarships require a campus visit prior to April 14, 2008. In addition, a 3.35 UE GPA is required for renewal. Trustee scholars who receive federal need-based grants or outside scholarships may use them for the cost of fees, room, meals, and books.
Academic Scholarship
- Competitive scholarship ranging from $5,000 to $13,500 per year.
- Based on high school record: GPA, difficulty of courses, class rank, and SAT or ACT scores.
- Renewable for four years with a UE GPA of 2.50; 12 semesters for DPT students.
- National Merit Scholar semifinalists receive a UE Academic Scholarship worth 75 percent of tuition. Semifinalists who later become finalists will receive a full-tuition scholarship if they list UE as their college choice with the National Merit Corporation by April 1 of their senior year. Scholarship is renewable with 3.35 cumulative UE GPA.
- Indiana residents who are candidates in good standing for the Indiana Academic Honors Diploma will automatically receive a scholarship of at least $6,500.
Art, Music, and Theatre Scholarships
- Same criteria as above except this scholarship is for students majoring in art, music, or theatre.
- An audition or portfolio presentation is required as part of the application.
- Contact the department directly to schedule an audition/portfolio presentation.
Toyota Scholarship
- Awarded to students who are admitted to UE's College of Engineering and Computer Science.
- Students must have a high school GPA of at least 3.60 and score at least 1730 on the new SAT or 25 or higher on the ACT.
- Renewable for four years with UE GPA of at least 2.50.
- Candidates must visit campus by April 12, 2008.
- Award ranges from $10,500 to $13,000 per year.
American Corporate Scholarship
- Awarded to students who are admitted to UE's School of Business Administration.
- Students must have a high school GPA of at least 3.60 and score at least 1730 on the new SAT or 25 or higher on the ACT.
- Renewable for four years with UE GPA of at least 2.50.
- Candidates must visit campus by April 12, 2008.
- Award ranges from $10,500 to $13,000 per year.
National Merit Semifinalist Award
- National Merit Semifinalists automatically receive a three-quarter tuition scholarship.
- Renewable with a 3.35 UE GPA.
National Merit Finalist Award
Semifinalists who later become finalists will receive a full-tuition scholarship if they list UE as their
college choice with the National Merit Corporation by early April of their senior year.
Scholarship is renewable with 3.35 cumulative UE GPA.
Leadership/Activity Award
- Award based on high school record: GPA, class rank, SAT or ACT scores, and leadership roles in high school, community, and church activities.
- Award is $5,000 per year.
Legacy Award
- Available to children and grandchildren of UE graduates.
- Award is $6,500 per year.
United Methodist Scholarship
- Available to students who are members of the United Methodist Church and are recommended by their minister.
- Award is $6,000 per year.
Cultural Diversity Award
- Awarded to students who demonstrate a commitment to cultural diversity. Available to all students with selection based upon a record of academic achievement, student leadership, and community involvement.
- Award ranges in value from $5,000 to $13,500 per year.
First Choice/First Choice Achiever Awards for Indiana Twenty-first Century Scholars
- Indiana residents who are in the Twenty-first Century Scholars program, will automatically be considered candidates for one of these awards when accepted for admission to UE.
- The First Choice Award supplements state of Indiana grants to provide an award worth $22,000 for the 2008-09 academic year
- The First Choice Achiever Award supplements state of Indiana grants to provide an award worth full tuition for the 2008-09 academic year.
IMPORTANT NOTE: The preceding twelve awards cannot be combined. Even though you may qualify for more than one, you will be awarded only the one of highest value.
Ensemble Participation Grant*
- Award is given on the basis of an audition in the Department of Music. It goes to non-music majors whose talents qualify them to participate in band, choir, or orchestra.
- Grant is for $400 annually and is renewable as long as you continue to participate.
Sibling Scholarship*
- Available to current UE students who have a brother or sister who enrolls at UE.
- Award is $1,500 a year for the first student attending UE and is given each year for as long as both remain full-time. Entering twins or triplets would each receive $1,000 a year.
Athletic Scholarship*
- Available for all men's and women's sports.
- Awards are made at the discretion of each coach. Athletic scholarships may replace one of the merit awards listed above or may be added to it. The coaches can be reached through the University of Evansville Department of Athletics.
- Information about athletics participation rates by gender and financial support data will be made available upon request. The annual report is available by contacting the director of athletics.
UE Academic Achievement Award*
This award is for current UE students who achieve a cumulative college Grade Point Average of at least 3.40. The award is $500 for each year and is cumulative. Therefore, the award could be $500 for the sophomore year, $1,000 for the junior year, and $1,500 for the senior year, provided that a 3.40 cumulative GPA is maintained.
Supplemental Awards for specific programs*
Academically talented students who have been admitted to UE and expressed an interest in business, engineering, computer science, or physics may be invited to attend special scholar days in order to compete for additional scholarships.
* Ensemble Participation Grant, Sibling Scholarship, UE Academic Achievement Award, and Supplemental Awards may be added to other merit awards, unless the student is receiving an award worth full-tuition award.
