Assistance Animal Policy
It is recognized that assistance animals (also known as emotional support or therapy animals) can provide valuable emotional support to students with properly documented conditions.
Since the animal is not a service animal as defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act, the University needs to review documentation. If a psychiatric disorder rises to the level of a disability, a reasonable and appropriate accommodation under the Fair Housing Act can be made to the “no pet policy” of UE Residence Life.
The University will work with students to help define the role and place of assistance animals at the University of Evansville. For information regarding approval of service animals and assistance animals, contact the Office of Disability Services at 812-488-2663. Below is a copy of the Assistance Animal Policy.
