Assistance Animal Policy
It is recognized that assistance animals (also known as emotional support or therapy animals) can provide valuable emotional support to students with properly documented conditions.
Since the animal is not a service animal as defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act, the University needs to review documentation to determine if the request for this accommodation is a reasonable and appropriate accommodation under the Fair Housing Act to the “no pet policy” of UE Residence Life.
The University will work with students to help define the role and the place of assistance animals at the University of Evansville. For information regarding approval of service animals and assistance animals, contact Debbie Brenton, Disability Services Coordinator and ADA Coordinator for students, at 812-488-2663.
