Not Just Another Classroom Experience

“UE was the university at which I felt that I could really belong.”

UE is Unique

For Andrea Onyett, the University of Evansville provided a comprehensive education and personalized opportunities for an affordable price. It was everything that she was looking for in a college. “UE was the university at which I felt that I could really belong,” said Andrea. “Both the scientific side and the liberal arts side of my personality were educated at UE.”

The multiple research opportunities and access to state-of-the-art equipment impressed Andrea, and she appreciated that students were encouraged to take advantage of these at an undergraduate level. She had not found anything quite like this at other universities.

Not Just Another Classroom Experience

At UE, Andrea was able to go beyond the typical classroom experience. Studying in an undergraduate research program in the Department of Chemistry, she gained a stronger appreciation of her field through first-hand experience. “Working on an ongoing project has taught me endurance as well as enhanced my creative and problem solving skills within chemistry.”

Andrea worked alongside Dr. Todsapon Thananatthanachon, assistant professor of chemistry, who prepared her to be a contributing member in the lab. “He has fostered in me independence to discover my own paths to advance research in synthesizing catalysts to make a biofuel,” explained Andrea. “He gave me great experience in the applications of chemistry.”

Studying Abroad

Andrea had the opportunity to study at Harlaxton College in England. “My study abroad experience helped my education by teaching me more about myself, increasing my independence and responsibility, and connecting me with vastly different cultures.” Her travels increased her appreciation for other cultures and opened her mind to new possibilities.

Giving Back to UE

Andrea also served as an Admission Ambassador, which gave her the chance to share her UE experience with future college students. She reminded others that the school they choose should be the environment in which they see the most potential for their ability to contribute to the world and grow as a citizen and a student. “Communicating with prospective students and families helped me understand more about how my UE education shaped me as an individual,” explained Andrea. “By sharing my story with others, I can give back to UE.”
