UE was the Best Decision
For Sammi Shuler, choosing to attend the University of Evansville was an easy decision. “UE offered everything I was looking for – small school environment, the ability to major in engineering, earn a minor, study abroad, and gain hands-on experience while still being able to graduate in four years.”
“UE offered so many different options for majors, and there is a lot of diversity among the students.” For Sammi, these items were important in selecting UE.
Making a Difference
While at UE, Sammi participated in numerous hands-on projects such as concrete canoe, for which she was the captain during her sophomore and junior years, as well as two internships, and study abroad at Harlaxton College in Grantham, England, Nicaragua, and Guatemala. “Going to Nicaragua and Guatemala to build houses let me use my Spanish minor and my civil engineering degree to make a difference. It’s the best feeling in the world to make a difference in someone’s life.”
Sammi’s internship experiences were very helpful and she recommends that students take every opportunity to complete at least one. “I learned so much from both of my internships. I was able to take what I learned in the classroom and see how it works in the world, which allowed me to understand the concepts and processes so much more.” For Sammi, her internship the summer before her senior year led to a full-time position after graduation. “I’m ready for new experiences and the ability to see the world.”
