I joined the leadership program to help me gain skills that could be very useful to me in my future. I want to be the CEO of a fortune 500 company one day and hopefully what I gain from this program can help me get to where I am trying to go. After I graduate, I plan to go to grad school to get my MBA. After I complete my masters, I plan on climbing a corporate ladder to get to the CEO position.

Expected Graduation: May 2018

I joined the LEAD Forward Program for three main reasons. First, I joined to take advantage of the tremendous opportunities we get to network and connect with prominent business leaders in our community. Second, to receive mentorship from Mindy Sagez, and learn invaluable leadership skills that I can apply to my future business career. Finally, I joined so I can help promote our outstanding business school, and show people around the community the impactful work we are doing as undergraduate students.

This summer, I will be re-joining IBM and their sales program as a Client Relationship Representative Intern, and will be stationed out in San Francisco. I plan to use this internship to kick-start my career in technical sales, and pursue a job in this field after college. Down the road, I would like to get involved in a tech start up company, or transition to some sort of a management role for a tech corporation.

I joined the LEAD Forward program for several reasons. I wanted to push myself as a leader and critical thinker through stellar mentorship. I wanted to learn from a host of new people including peers, teachers, and business professionals from varied backgrounds. I wanted to expose myself to different ideas and explore unique opportunities. More broadly, I wanted to try something new, since, as the author Neale Donald Walsch put it, “Life begins at the end of your comfort zone.”

To be perfectly honest, I’m not entirely sure what I’ll do upon graduation. One thing, however, is certain: I am excited to pursue a career that offers innumerous opportunities for creative thought, personal development, dynamic collaboration, and the chance to make a difference, in one way or another.

Since the start of my academic career at UE, I was sure to become involved heavily on campus through becoming Greek and working under the Center for Student Engagement to help plan freshman recruiting events for Greek recruitment. In the external community, I volunteered as a religious educator at my local church. There was something missing. I asked myself how do I immerse myself in the Schroeder School of Business? LEAD Forward was the answer so I could not only develop relationships with my fellow peers in similar academic settings, but connect with the university on a deeper academic level and develop as a leader for both my institution and myself.

Currently, I am wishing to attend law school to practice either immigration or corporate law. Attorneys with degrees in business are heavily sought out, not necessarily because he or she will implement business knowledge daily, but the type of thought processes brought forth by an education in business help attorneys exercise critical thinking early on to ultimately help in future legal endeavors.

I am so grateful to be a part of the most dynamic and engaging leadership group on campus. I joined the LEAD Forward program to further improve my leadership skills under our very own Mindy Sagez. There is so much we can learn from her experiences at Fortune 500 businesses such as Starbucks and Pepsi. I have two different career paths planned when I graduate. One idea is to work at Harlaxton College under the Dean of Students for a few years then return for graduate school to pursue an MBA. My other career path would involve moving out to Colorado or California to work on a marketing team for a large outdoor clothing company such as Patagonia or The North Face. Regardless of where my career takes me, I know I can apply the leadership skills I have learned in this organization to any job I have in the future.
