We regret to announce that The Evansville Review must take a year off from accepting submissions due to the pandemic. We will be closed from September 2020 through the end of August 2021. We hope you understand, and please keep us in mind when the Fall 2021 submission period rolls around.
We are interested in fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction, short drama, and cover art ranging from the traditional to the experimental. We welcome submissions from established writers as well as new voices.
We do not publish work that has been previously published elsewhere. Please don’t submit more than one submission in a given genre while a decision from us is pending. Simultaneous submissions are encouraged as long as you notify us immediately if your piece is accepted elsewhere. If you submit through our online submission manager, you can simply withdraw your piece there. If any of the poems in your online submission file are selected for publication elsewhere, email the editor at email@example.com to withdraw the individual poem(s). We will continue considering the rest of your submitted work.
Current students of the University of Evansville may not submit. Former UE students may submit their work for consideration once four years have passed since their graduation.
Submit up to 5 single-spaced poems at a time (with a maximum of 10 pages total per submission). Please save all poems in a single document before submitting. Include a brief, 3rd-person bio in your cover letter.
Submit up to three pieces of flash fiction (<1,000 each) or one story up to 6,500 words. We are open to a wide range of styles, though our aim is always the highest literary quality. Hit us with your best language, your most compelling characters. Make us remember your story. Please include a brief, 3rd-person bio in your cover letter.
Submit up to three pieces of flash nonfiction (<1,000 each) or one creative nonfiction piece up to 6,500 words. We are open to any style—memoirs, meditations, experimental pieces, lyric essays, etc.—though our aim is always the highest literary quality. We are not interested in scholarly essays. Please include a brief, 3rd-person bio in your cover letter.
We are especially interested in including illustrated narratives in our journal. We welcome submissions of graphic memoir or essay and illustrated short stories that demonstrate literary merit. We are interested in traditional forms and experimental techniques. Submissions can be in color or black and white. Please format submission in a single .doc, as a .pdf or a .jpg series.
Submit up to 15 pages for consideration. We are open to most anything here and get by far the fewest submissions in this category. We’d love to see that change! Please include a brief, 3rd-person bio in your cover letter.
Please submit up to three photographs in a high-resolution JPEG file. We are open to anything as long as the images aren’t violent or pornographic.
Include a brief, 3rd-person bio in your cover letter and a link to your online portfolio if you have one.
Our only submission method is through Submittable. Click the button below to begin.
