The Department of Creative Writing offers two degrees:
Bachelor of Fine Arts in Creative Writing
The University of Evansville's Department of Creative Writing ranks with the nation's very best; in addition to being one of only a handful of programs to offer a BFA in creative writing, it also publishes two internationally-acclaimed literary journals: Measure and The Evansville Review. Creative writing faculty are all published writers in the genres they teach, and other successful authors, editors, and publishers come to campus as guest readers, workshop leaders, and writers-in-residence.
Students take 60 credit hours (20 courses), combining writing and literature courses under the guidance of the creative writing faculty.
Bachelor of the Arts in Writing
Students take at least seven writing courses and a minimum of five literature courses. They may emphasize fiction writing, poetry writing, playwriting, or some mixture of those genres.
We also feel very confident that students will graduate with a skill set that prepares them to excel in a wide variety of careers. After four years, students will have gained the following skills:
- Critical thinking
- Analytical decision making
- Persuasive oral and written communication
