Early Start Education Certificate Program Frequently Asked Questions

Who is eligible to participate in the Early Start Education Certificate Program (ESECP)?

Eligible high school students can begin classes the summer following sophomore year and continue through the last semester of their senior year in high school.

What are the Eligibility Criteria?

Applicants to the program should possess a 3.0 cumulative GPA, as verified by the submission of official high school transcripts to CAL@evansville.edu.

Students with a cumulative GPA below 3.0 who wish to be considered will be required to submit a one-page original essay (typed and double-spaced with one-inch margins) on the topic, “Why a career in education is important to me.” Additionally, these students must submit one letter of recommendation from a high school school counselor or teacher who supports the student’s plans to take online course work at a college level. While acceptance into the program is not guaranteed, it will be given consideration.

How do I apply to get started on my certificate?

A “Register Now” link is provided on our website. Once a student submits this form, our Center for the Advancement of Learning team will review it along with the required transcripts to confirm eligibility has been met. A confirmation of acceptance email will then be sent to provide the next steps for course registration.

Please phone 812-488-5021 or email CAL@evansville.edu for further assistance.

Will the courses apply towards an Education degree at the University of Evansville?

Yes, course work provided through the ESECP is comprised of required courses for all UE Education majors. This course work will help you get a “jump start” on your degree at UE!

I may attend another school. Can credits be transferred to other colleges?

We are not able to answer this question as it is at the discretion of the receiving institution. You may contact the registrar’s office at the receiving institution to ask this question.

Are courses offered on campus or online?

All courses for students enrolled in the certificate program will be offered in an online format. More information about Blackboard (our online learning platform) will be provided to students upon acceptance into the certificate program.

Do I have to finish all the courses that are part of the certificate program?

No, you can complete the courses that best fit your schedule. Every course is one less you will need to take once you get started in UE’s School of Education, so go for it!
