Students must bring their own instrument to the camp. Students using their school's instruments should talk to their band/orchestra director about keeping their instrument over the summer.

Electives

Please indicate your interest for the following elective choices. Choose three different electives. We will do our best to give you your first choice, but as class sizes and resources are limited, you may be given your second or third choice. Some choices may not be offered due to lack of interest or instructor availability.

I can name some notes written for my instrument, and I can count rhythms using whole, half, and quarter notes (best choice for most students finishing first year band/orchestra).

I can name most notes written for my instrument, and I can count rhythms which include eighth notes and rests (best choice for most students finishing second year).

I can read all notes for my instrument and maybe some notes on another clef. I can count rhythms which include sixteenth notes, and I can name some major key signatures.

I can read notes on two different clefs, rhythms which include dotted rhythms and triplets, and can count rhythms in 6/8 time. I can name most or all major key signatures and a few minor keys, and I understand how to write major scales using whole and half steps.

I can read treble and bass clef perfectly, can count rhythms in all meters, can name all major and minor key signatures, can write major scales and some minor scales, and can identify simple intervals (i.e. 2nd, 5th, octave).

I understand the above plus write minor scales in all three forms, identify simple and compound intervals by size and quality (i.e. major 9th, perfect 4th, diminished 5th), and I have a basic understanding of diatonic triads.

I understand the above plus I can write diatonic triads and seventh chords in root position and inversion, plus I understand the basics of chord types and typical chord progressions.
