4:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 19, 2014

Room 203, Bower-Suhrheinrich Library, J. Henry Schroeder Boardroom, University of Evansville Campus, 1800 Lincoln Ave, Evansville, IN

This lecture will discuss Loreta Janeta Velazquez’s 1876 work The Woman in Battle: A Narrative of the Exploits, Adventures, and Travels of Madame Loreta Janeta Velazquez.  She provides a dramatic recounting of her exploits as a cross-dressing soldier fighting for the Confederacy.  Though not a very good fighter, Velazquez places herself in the center of the most hotly contested battles of the war.
