Welcome Week 2020

You are going to love being part of Welcome Week 2020! Welcome Week is a four-day program just before classes begin (Saturday, August 22 - Tuesday, August 25, 2020) that will help you get acclimated to campus, meet friends, and make connections with people and offices all across campus. Please clear your calendar now because all new incoming students are required to attend. You will be matched with an Orientation Leader (OL) and a team of other incoming freshmen for four days of fun, interesting sessions and activities designed to welcome you to the University of Evansville community. Welcome Week Schedule

Welcome Week activities take place Saturday, August 22 - Tuesday, August 25, 2020. Look for the Orientation Leaders in your residence hall lobby to sign in and get your materials. A team of OLs will be there to greet you and give you the full schedule of events. The required program beings at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 22, 2020.

Welcome Week sessions and activities will run all four days, Saturday, August 22 - Tuesday, August 25, 2020. Fall classes will begin on Wednesday, August 26, 2020. A more-complete schedule will be provided when you sign in for Welcome Week, but you can find a brief schedule here.

The Why Behind Welcome Week

You are about to begin a new phase of life and we want to help you succeed in every way we can. It is normal for incoming students to be a little nervous and to have lots of questions when they arrive on campus. We are all here to help you settle into campus and get started on the right foot. The Welcome Week 2020 team includes not only the OLs, but also staff members from Academic Advising/Student Success, Career Development, the University Counseling Center, the Center for Student Engagement, the Diversity and Equity office, and more. From the pomp and circumstance of Academic Convocation to the fun and games of cheering on our Purple Aces, Welcome Week 2020 will provide you with everything you need to start your college career off right!

Preparing for Welcome Week

Registration for Welcome Week: All new incoming students are automatically enrolled and expected to attend Welcome Week. Students living on-campus will be able to check-in for Welcome Week when they move into their Residence Hall on either August 20 or 21. Specific instructions for receiving your Welcome Week schedule on either August 21 or 22 will be emailed to commuter students. The Welcome Week program officially begins at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 22, 2020.

*Note for Transfer Students: Transfer students have the option of participating in Welcome Week or not. Please contact us at 812-488-2371 or by responding to the Welcome Week email that is sent to all Transfer Students.

UE email: If you are not doing so already, get in the habit of checking your UE email on a regular basis. Instructions are available online for adding your UE email to your smart phone or call our OTS help desk at 812-488-2077 for further assistance. Your University email will serve as the primary means of communication with the university throughout your academic career.

Health and Wellness: All new incoming students are required to submit an updated, physician certified immunization record and physical prior to the beginning of classes at the University of Evansville. Visit www.medproctor.com to learn about the health requirements, obtain appropriate forms, and register for your new account, using your University of Evansville email address. Follow the Med+Proctor instructions for completing this process. Please do not mail your immunization record to the University or health center.

Students not in compliance with the University of Evansville’s health requirements by the beginning of classes, risk their eligibility to attend class and live in residential housing. If you have any questions regarding the health requirements please contact the UE Health Center at healthcenter@evansville.edu or 812-488-2033. If you take prescription medication or have ongoing health concerns, now is the time to secure a local physician and pharmacy.

University Parking Permits will be required for all students parking on campus during the school year. Please watch your email for more information about this process.

Ordering Books: Want to skip the line for textbooks or simply looking for what's being used for your classes? Just visit the bookstore website! When you place your order online, our friendly staff will pull and package your books, so you don't have to. We can even ship them to you! Need to charge your textbooks to your Financial Aid or student account? When it asks for payment information at checkout, simply fill in your Student ID number and name under the "Financial Aid" payment option.

We begin processing online orders at the beginning of August and you'll receive an email as soon as it's ready. If you're picking up in-store, you'll come back to the Customer Service counter with your Student ID; if it's being shipped to you, the email you receive will have a tracking number in it.

Academic Planner: As you begin to order your books and gather supplies for this fall, we wanted to let you know about a gift we will provide you during Welcome Week. Your academic success is important to us and we want to help you develop good habits like being organized and managing your time well. Our Student Success Team will be providing you an academic planner where you can record upcoming activities, assignments, test dates, family visits, and other important Information.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do parents attend Welcome Week activities with their students?
No, Welcome Week is for incoming students. While parents often help their students move into their residence halls, the activities surrounding Welcome Week, beginning the morning of Saturday, August 22, 2020, are for students only.
Where will students eat during Welcome Week?
Students will receive meal tickets for on-campus dining in their Welcome Week registration packet provided when they check in on Saturday afternoon. Some meals are provided through the cafeteria and others are offered cookout style. If you have food allergies or other special dietary needs and have not done so already, please contact the Disability Services Coordinator at 812-488-2663 to register for accommodations. She will help you connect with the University food service provider which is Chartwells.
Do students who live at home and commute to campus participate in Welcome Week?
Yes, students who commute to campus should plan to fully participate in Welcome Week activities. While commuter students will not stay overnight on campus, they should plan to spend a lot of time on campus with their peers. This is a great way to get to know other students and start feeling at home, on-campus.
What if I have to work or have other obligations during Welcome Week?
Welcome Week is required of all new students. Students are encouraged to make the appropriate arrangements in order to fully participate in Welcome Week. Welcome Week will provide you with all the tools you’ll need to be successful at UE.
