Principal Horn, Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra

Instructor of Horn (Half-time), University of Evansville

Responsibilities: Serve as Principal Horn in the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra; approximately 90 services with the EPO (includes all orchestra and Consortium services).  Teach studio horn, perform chamber music with faculty, serve as Horn faculty for the annual Shepard Summer Music Camp, participate in recruiting and admissions activities, additional teaching to complete a half-time load. 

Qualifications: Performance at a very high level of artistic accomplishment including solo, chamber, and orchestral experience; a strong commitment to teaching. Required: Masters degree.  Desirable: College level teaching experience.

Other Information: The Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra and the University of Evansville collaborate fully in the selection and employment of Consortium personnel.

The University of Evansville is an independent, comprehensive, selective admissions university recognized for excellence in its core liberal arts and sciences curriculum and professional programs. Enrollment is more than 2,000. The University is a leader in study abroad and owns a campus in England, Harlaxton College. The Music Conservatory typically has 65+ undergraduate music majors and significant non-major student involvement in all ensembles. Degree programs include Music Education, Music Therapy, Music Management, Performance, and General Studies (Bachelor of Science). The Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra presents a subscription series of six classics and five pops programs each season. In addition, the EPO performs youth concerts, Messiah, Nutcracker, and outreach concerts each season. The organization includes two Youth Orchestras and a 120+ voice adult chorus.

Salary and Benefits: Approximately $27,885 (combined, depending on experience/qualifications) plus disability, health, and life insurance.

Audition/Interview: May 21/22, 2024. The first round will consist of an orchestra audition. Finalists will be interviewed regarding pedagogical experience and philosophy, read with faculty chamber groups, and teach a short lesson.
