Technician - Mechanical and Civil Engineering
The Mechanical and Civil Engineering Department Technician provides technical support to 11 engineering faculty and 200 engineering students in conducting laboratory classes in ENGR 101, CE 183, CE 331, CE 339, CE 380, CE 497, ME 197, ME 297, ME 397, ME 497, ME 330, ME 360, ME 463 as well as the ASCE concrete canoe and ASCE steel bridge teams. Maintain the Bowen Engineering Laboratory, the Engineering Annex (the old UE bookstore), and over $500,000 worth of engineering equipment. Specific job responsibilities include supporting faculty in conducting ME and CE laboratories, supporting students in completing engineering projects for competitions, supporting students in completing engineering projects for engineering courses, operating complex laboratory equipment (MTS machine, CNC mill and lathe, various testing equipment), performing maintenance on laboratory equipment, scheduling repairs on laboratory equipment, and performing HAZMAT and MSD Inventory.
Technical training in MIG, TIG, and ARC welding and technical training in the operation of complex mechanical equipment, including CNC mill, CNC lathe, Variable Speed Vertical Milling Machine, 50 kip MTS Machine, Dynamic Shear Rheometer, Polariscope, Rapid Prototype Machine, Techquipment Hydraulic Bench, and Direct Shear System
An Associate’s Degree in Machine Tool Technology and a minimum of five years of work experience in a machine shop is required.
