Assistant Professor of Music Education/Saxophone

The University of Evansville announces a tenure-track professor opening for Instrumental Music Education/Saxophone specialist in the Department of Music beginning August 2014.  Responsibilities include teaching courses in the instrumental and general music education curriculum (courses may include methods courses, marching band techniques) and undergraduate saxophone majors; assist with the university band program; supervise student teachers; advise education majors; serve as liaison with the Department of Education; stay current with accreditation and state licensing standards; maintain high profile among area music educators and instrumental music organizations.

Additional teaching may be assigned based on the successful candidate’s qualifications and departmental needs.  Active recruitment of highly qualified music majors; assistance with the summer music camp; professional/scholarly activity, and service on departmental and university committees is expected.

A Doctorate in Music is required (ABD with August 1, 2014 completion considered).  Candidates should show demonstrated success in teaching at the pre-college level; demonstrated performing ability on the saxophone; familiarity with elementary teaching methods (e.g. Dalcroze, Kodaly, and/or Orff methods).  Undergraduate teaching experience is highly desirable.
