Why I Chose UE

I chose UE because of the small campus atmosphere. When I visited UE, I immediately felt like the campus community and especially the biology department, was a family. This drew me in and showed me that my academics could be more than being just a number in a lecture hall.

UE Biology Experiences

I did research with Dr. Stamm and Dr. Merkle in the summer of 2020. Our research involved testing a DNA mutation mapping technique on Drosophila, or fruit flies. I have also been to Costa Rica with Dr. Gordon and Dr. Aldred for the Tropical Ecology of Costa Rica course, and I did field research based on tree height, basal area, and arthropod diversity of old growth versus new growth forests. I am a TA for Biology 119 and Biology 100, and I also help Daniel French as a lab technician for the department.

Campus Organizations and Extracurricular Activities

I am an Orientation Leader, part of the BiSci club, and hold a leadership position within Greek Life.
