Why did you choose to attend UE?

There were a few different things that drew me to choosing UE. When I visited campus, I had an amazing meeting with my advisor for Actuarial Science. I knew before coming here that I wanted to study Math, but I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do with it. I heard about Actuarial Science, and it interested me. The Division I Men’s Swimming and Diving team was a reason as well. I also liked the idea of a small class size and campus. I get a lot of attention in my major, which ensures I am learning.

Did you visit campus before choosing UE?

I came to campus on a recruitment visit for the Men’s Swimming and Diving team. When I visited, I noticed that the team was very friendly and welcoming. I got to meet all the current members, and bond with the team by going to play mini golf and laser tag.

During my visit I found a place where I could swim and study what I wanted. It was hard not to choose UE, because it had everything I was looking for.

What activities or organizations have you been involved with at UE?

In 2022-23 I was one of the captains of the Men’s Swimming and Diving team. During my junior and senior year, I was the President of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), which has been a larger commitment. Because I am in this role, I am also one of the Missouri Valley Conference representatives. I am also serving as the co-president of the Newman Club.

How has UE been affordable for you?

I had a good SAT score and GPA in high school. Because of this I was able to obtain a generous merit scholarship. I also received a scholarship for swimming, which made UE affordable for my family.

How did studying abroad impact your UE experience?

Because I really liked learning the Spanish language in high school and I received AP credits, I decided to go for a Spanish minor. After working on my Spanish minor for a few semesters, I decided to study abroad in Spain at the Universidad de Granada during the summer of 2022. I was only there for one month but earned six credits by taking four classes. Most of my classmates were from the US, but my roommate was from Japan, and Spanish was our common language. With my extra credits from studying abroad, it became reasonable to double major in Actuarial Science and Spanish. Without studying abroad, it would’ve been much harder for me to have Spanish as a major..

Why do you recommend studying abroad?

It is a great opportunity to see the world and experience other cultures. It is very easy to only know what you come from living in the US. Seeing new things helps to broaden your perspective and enhance your language skills.

Why do you recommend UE?

The campus atmosphere is great, and the University is continuing to grow and make progress. The faculty are awesome, and I really enjoy the professors I have worked with during my time here.

What advice would you share with incoming students?

Be brave and try new things. Meet as many new people as you can and take advantage of every opportunity you get.
