Class Year: 2014

Why did you choose to attend UE?
I ultimately felt a smaller, tight-knit community like UE with smaller class sizes was the right fit for me. My wonderful admissions counselor Gary, who exemplified the best of UE's welcoming and caring community also played a big role in my final decision.

What activities or organizations were you involved with at UE? How did these impact you and your college career?
I was involved in Chi Omega, Scholars for Syria, and Psi Chi/Psychology Club. These were fulfilling activities that introduced me to different aspects of campus and various groups within the student body.

What makes UE a special place? How did our campus shape your college experience?
Going into college, I strongly felt the need to be seen and have very personalized experiences with my faculty and classmates, and I got that at UE. UE also gave me a changemaking orientation that remains very important to me. Like all campuses, UE is imperfect, but it is full of individuals who are trying to be better, and I think it makes room for the students to shape that mission a bit as well.

What advice would you share with incoming students?
Get involved in every way that feels fitting and sustainable for you – by joining whatever club interests you, trying out fitness classes or intramurals, getting to know specific faculty, taking classes outside of your major that seem interesting, etc. It will truly enrich your experience and create habits that you'll take with you beyond college.

Why do you recommend the University of Evansville?
UE has a lot of amazing faculty who care deeply about the students and are excellent educators and wonderful people. Having been at multiple other larger, more research-based institutions, I can say that is not always easy to find – priorities vary. UE is great for students who want a quality, personalized education in an environment that makes it easy to build connections and find community and support.

Did you visit UE before deciding to attend? How did it shape your college decision?
I'd been to UE several times as a child when my older brother was a student there. Back then I mainly just noticed the linden tree (which has since fallen) that students would sit on, which was a major motivator for my 5-8 year old self to want to come to UE. But I visited as a prospective student as well and loved how friendly students and faculty were, both to me and my parents, and how despite being in a relatively smaller city the campus felt very vibrant and seemed to have lots to do and get involved with.
