Handshake User Agreement

Handshake is the free Web-based system used by the Center for Career Development and employers to post full-time, internship, co-op and part-time job opportunities for current UE students and alumni. Handshake allows you to: Search for all types of jobs, including full-time and part-time employment, internships and co-ops; Become eligible for on-campus recruiting and resume referrals; Track your job search, including job listings for which you have applied; Store resumes, cover letters and documents related to your professional job search; Send your resume and other application materials to employers; Receive announcements about upcoming career events and on-campus recruiting events.

Participation Agreement

Please read agreement before registering with Handshake:

The Center for Career Development agrees to:

PROVIDE SERVICES: Offer services to assist you with your career decision-making and job search activities.

ACCESS OF INFORMATION: Provide you with access to information on a range of career opportunities and types of employing organizations.

NON-DISCRIMINATION: Provide you with access to prospective employers without regard to race, color, national origin, religion, age, gender, sexual orientation, or disability and provide you with reasonable accommodations upon request.

PROTECT CONFIDENTIALITY: Exercise sound judgment and fairness in maintaining your confidentiality.

STUDENT ADVOCACY: Discuss EEO noncompliance and unethical behavior exhibited by an employer and take appropriate action when needed.

I agree to:

ACCURATE INFORMATION: Certify that information found in my resume, profile and other job search documents is truthful and accurate. If you choose to participate in resume books but do not log in to your account for over 60 days, your resume will not be included in resume books until you log in again.

EXERCISE PRECAUTION: While the majority of postings are screened by the Center for Career Development, I am advised to contact your office if I have questions regarding the validity/legitimacy of the employer or position posted.

GRANT ACCESS: Give permission to the Center for Career Development to provide my resume and other job search documents to prospective employers. I understand that my resume will automatically be placed in the local resume database whether or not I opt to place my resume in the central global resume database.

INSTITUTIONAL REPORTING: Recognize that the Center for Career Development will need to utilize student information for the purposes of reporting how many students are currently registered in the Handshake system, what types of employment positions students are seeking and other confidential demographic information. Employers will not have access to any of the above mentioned information.

HONOR COMMITMENTS: Pledge to honor all interview commitments that I have previously scheduled with employers and keep appointments scheduled with staff professionals the Center for Career Development.

GENUINE INTEREST: Sign up for interviews with only those employers for whom I am interested in working.

PROFESSIONAL CONDUCT: Notify the employer on a timely basis of an acceptance or non-acceptance of an offer, accept an offer of employment in good faith, withdraw from the recruiting process after accepting an offer of employment, and discontinue pursuit of a position with other employers upon accepting an offer. Remember the 3 Cs: Consideration, Courtesy and Civility. Interacting with employers is a unique opportunity for students to practice appropriate business protocol and formal communication techniques with someone eager to help and support their career decision-making processes. This relationship must be treated as a precious gift of time and expertise- not to be taken for granted or forgotten without a thank you.

CONSEQUENCES FOR NON-COMPLIANCE: Accept that failure to adhere to any point in this agreement may result in the removal of my privileges with the Center for Career Development. Please Note: Students and Alumni registering and/or submitting their resume through Handshake are agreeing to comply with all points of the Participation Agreement.
