Alex Ortiz

2021-22 President, Student Government Association

As a child, Alex Ortiz always knew he wanted to go to college. Many of his family members didn't have the motivation to continue their education, or they had difficulty reaching the end of their high school careers. Because of this, Alex knew there would be extra pressure to succeed and graduate. His family has been very supportive, and they have worked hard to help support him financially as he strives to achieve academically and personally.

Alex chose UE because he needed a place that would foster mentorships with his professors and friendships with classmates. As an outgoing person, he feels he has gotten to know so many people on campus. As a student, though, he has faced hardships, including studying, more challenging curriculum, and lack of experiential advice from his parents.

“Because of all the resources UE has to offer, I have been able to overcome these obstacles,” Alex said. Now as a junior and president of the Student Government Association, he feels so close to the finish line. And “because of the resources and professors at UE,” he dreams of someday becoming the CEO of Starbucks!
